{Review} Virtual Speech Center Apps

Virtual Speech Center apps are some of my APPsolute favorites!  Why you ask?  Because each app does a great job of comprehensively covering the area that it targets.  I'm rarely, if ever thinking, "great app, but I wish it had ______", which in my book, makes for a fantastic app!

Today, I will be sharing reviews of "Prepositions Journey" and "WH-Questions Island".

First up, is "Prepositions Journey".

This app targets early and common prepositional words in a fun and interactive way.  First, I would suggest reading the "How to use" tab in order to understand exactly how this app works.  It's really very easy to follow and in just a few minutes, you're ready to use the app!

Next, add your student(s) into the program.  (I just included myself, but you can add more than one student at a time.)

Then, pick from three different scenes: "lake camping", "island", and "city", or include all of them.  You can also pick your prepositions from the receptive and/or expressive list by simply touching the individual words. There are tons of different prepositional words to choose from, including: in, on, under, next to, in front of, behind, in the back, between, above, below, beside, in the middle, outside, out, over, near, far, on the side, on the left, and on the right.  Phew!  That sure is an extensive list!

For the receptive prepositions, a student must point to an animal (fox, rabbit, or squirrel) that is in a specific location.  For example, the direction to follow for the image below might be, "Show me the rabbit above the sleeping bag."

For the expressive prepositions, a student must state where the animal is.  For example, the question for the image below might be, "Where is the squirrel?"

This app also allows for easy data collection that can be accessed at the end of your session.

What I love about this app:
- I have rarely found apps that give multiple repetitions for each prepositional word, which is exactly what students need!  Since each "scene" in this app offers 10 exposures to each prepositional word/phrase, and there are 3 "scenes", a student can have 30 different opportunities to learn about and use each preposition!
- This app includes 20 different prepositional words/phrases that are commonly used, so you get the most bang for your buck!
- Data collection in this app is very easy to keep track of and ready for use whenever you decide to end your session.

You can find "Prepositions Journey" for $9.99 HERE!

Next up, is "WH-Questions Island".

This app targets a student's ability to answer "who", "what", "where", "when", "why" and "how" questions, both receptively and expressively.  As with "Preposition Journey", I would suggest reading the "How to use" section under "info".  Again, the directions are really easy to follow, but taking a few minutes to read these instructions makes using the app much easier!

Next, add the students that will be using this app!

The app includes 80 "what", 80 "who", 80 "where", 80 "when", 80 "why", and 80 "how" receptive questions, where students simply choose the correct answer to the question from a field of three.

Here is an example of a "why" question.

Also included are 80 "what", 80 "who", 80 "where", 80 "when", 80 "why", and 80 "how" expressive questions, where students simply state the correct answer to the question.

Here is an example of a "what" question.

You can choose either flashcards or a board game to play with.  Below is a picture of the game board.

This app also allows for easy data collection that can be accessed when you are done playing the game or flipping through the flashcards.

What I love about this app:
- The game board - games always make therapy goals more fun to work on!
- Data collection in this app is very easy to keep track of and ready for use whenever you decide to end your session.
- This app includes 480 wh-questions!  Need I say more?!

You can find "WH-Questions Island" for $9.99 HERE!

If you have either of these apps or decide to purchase them, please let me know what you think!  I've found them very useful!

Disclosure: These apps were given to me for review.  No other compensation was provided.
