Give Me Five!

Do you ever work with students who like to know just how many questions you'll be asking or how many repetitions are expected of their sound/phrase/sentence?  Or are you trying to increase the amount of exposures your students have to a specific skill?  Try giving them five!

This little creation shows you the extent out my artistic skills (traced hand, marker, velcro), but it's also great for increasing participation in therapy!

First, one student starts by "high-fiving" the hand - it just makes it more fun!  Each time that a student completes a task (e.g. answers a wh-question, says a word containing their sound, etc), they can put one of the fingers down.  Once they get to five, they pull all of the fingers up, ask a fellow student to give the hand a high five, and then it's another student's turn.

Do you have any tips for increasing participation in therapy?  If so, please feel free to share them!

  1. I can't wait to use this idea in therapy in September, thanks for sharing. It's a great way to get multiple responses.

  2. Love this idea! With artic kids you could do five sets of five if in isolation, syllable or word level. That would give you more repetitions per turn.
