{Review} ColorCards

Today, I have some great Therapy Box apps to share with you!  These include Everyday Objects, What Can You See?, Basic Sequences, Sequences 4-Step, and Sequences 6 & 8-Step!

With all of the apps, setting up your participants is really easy.  Just add the person's name or use the app as a guest.  (Personally, I like being able to add individual students, as the apps collect data for you!)

First up is Everyday Objects.  This app includes 48 different picture cards, but you can also add your own pictures, which is AWESOME!

The app encourages users to describe various objects, but that app could just be used for naming objects as well.

The "reveal" part of the app shows small parts of an item at a time.

Each of the apps (including the ones below) keeps data for you.  I love that it shows the individual items that were correct, incorrect, and those that students needed assistance with.  This helps me know what students need more practice with!

Everyday Objects is only $1.99 and you can find it HERE!

What Can You See? is a fun guessing game that slowly reveals parts of an image, so that students can guess what they see!

This app includes 30 images, but as with the other apps, you can add your own pictures to personalize the activities!

What Can You See? is only $1.99 as well and you can find it HERE!

Basic Sequences includes sixteen 3-part sequences!  You can also personalize the app by adding your own sequences as well!  Simply drag the steps into the correct spots to put them in the correct order.

When each individual step is in the correct order, it lights up green.  In my experience, this is a great part of the app because it helps students to understand where they went wrong and to leave the correct steps in the right places.

Also included in all of these sequencing apps are prediction cards.  I LOVE this feature!  What a great way to get students thinking about the next logical step in the sequence!

There are also basic "what is happening"? cards which lend themselves well to labeling activies and/or working on grammar skills, including, but not limited to:

- pronouns (subjective, objective, possessive)
- third person singular verbs
- present progressive verbs
- auxiliary verbs

You can find this cool app HERE!

Sequences: 4-Step includes 12 four-step activities and includes the same prediction and "what is happening?" components as the basic sequences app.  This app is also only $1.99 and you can find it HERE!

Sequences: 6 & 8-Step includes 48 images, as well as the predicting and "what is happening?" parts of the app.  Once again, this app is only $1.99 and you can find it HERE!

What I really like about these apps:
- They're simple, easy to use, and concepts that I address on a daily basis.
- You can customize them, which is awesome for students who need extra practice in certain areas.
- I love that the sequencing apps can also be used for predicting additional steps.  (And they can also be used to infer information as well.)

What I'd like to see in an update:
- When describing the everyday objects, I'd love to have picture and/or word cues in order to help students describe the object.  For example, "what color is it", "what can you do with it", "where might you find it", etc.
- You have to go through all of the pictures/sequences in order to get data for a student, but I wish there was a way to get data even if you don't use all of the pictures.  (You can, however, adjust the amount of cards that you use before starting the activity.)

But wait, there's more!  Want to win a copy of one of these apps?!  Just enter the giveaway below!  Five lucky winners will each receive one of the apps reviewed above!

{Review} A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee

Today I'm sharing a review of a speech and language companion for the book, A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee by Scarlett over at Speech is Sweet!  I love working with books during speech and language sessions because I can target so many different goal areas at the same time and this packet by Scarlett definitely made things so much easier and saved me LOTS of time during those last few {extremely busy} weeks of the school year!  Let's check it out...

Comprehension... I think a good 75% of my language students have some goal related to comprehension and story retelling.  There are 18 comprehension questions in the pack and another sheet that turns the activity into a fun game!  (And let's face it - the graphics are so cute!)

Then, there are 18 riddle cards that can also double as an attribute activity.  Each card includes a few descriptions of an item related to camping.  And again, another sheet that turns the activity into a game!

Next are 18 pronoun cards.  Students draw a card and complete the sentence with the appropriate pronoun and BONUS, if a student draws a lantern card, they get an extra turn!

There are also 30 rhyming cards, six cards in each "family."

I'm all about these super easy black and white sheets lately.  All I have to do is print them and they're immediately ready to use.  Students simply cut out the supplies, read the preposition that is listed under the item and then put it in the correct place in the picture.  This was a great way for me to see how my students were doing with a mix of language concepts.

Last, but not least, there are artic worksheets for the phonemes /k/ and /f/.  Students say each word (I love the picture cues, by the way!) 10 times, color the items, cut out the words, and glue them around the camp fire.

This is a great product by Scarlett!  It covers so many goal areas and was fantastic for my caseload!  I love the mix of color flashcards and black and white worksheets too!

You can find this awesome product HERE!  I highly recommend it!

{Product Review} "The Night Before Valentine's Day: A Book Companion for Language"

My current caseload is ridiculously diverse, so when I find a product that I can use with practically every single one of my students, I'm a happy camper!  "The Night Before Valentine's Day: A Book Companion for Language" by The Speech Owl targets twelve different goal areas, has a reinforcer page to be used with additional targets, and comes in a color and black and white versions!  *Cue happy dance!*

Here's a picture of what I started using last week and will continue using this week as well.  I LOVE that I can choose between color and black and white.  I chose to print many of the activities in black and white so that my students can circle/color/etc, which really holds their attention!

Let's take a look at all of the activities included in this packet and the variety in each goal area!

Comprehension and story retelling can be targeted in a number of different ways... 1) with open ended comprehension questions, 2) with comprehension questions with a field of three multiple choices, 3) yes/no questions about the story, or 4) story retell with sequencing pictures.  This is an awesome way to work on related goals within a group where students are at multiple levels!!

I always have students working on synonyms and antonyms.  Once again, this product targets the skill in multiple ways... 1) matching (here, I printed the cards in color and laminated them so that we can play a matching game), 2) matching worksheets (black and white version here that I'll throw into page protectors so that we can write on the pages and reuse them), and "open ended" pages were students must generate synonyms and antonyms for the given words.

Vocabulary is one of my favorite skills to work on!  This product includes tier 1 and tier 2 vocabulary, which I love!  My students working on tier 1 vocabulary will name the items and color them.  (We'll also be working on functions too!)  Tier 2 students have worked with the vocabulary flashcards this past week.  This coming week, we'll work on generating definitions for the words that we learned last week.

Regular plural nouns, irregular plural nouns, regular past tense verbs, irregular past tense verbs... These are just a few of the grammar skills that are constantly being targeted in my therapy room!  Next week, we'll be targeting with the worksheets that include pictures, since these provide a great visual of the skill.  After that, we'll move to matching, and producing plural nouns and past tense verbs on our own!  These worksheets will definitely last me multiple sessions, which is awesome!  (And "prepping" them is as easy as clickaing "print"!)

Also included in this activity are cards to target understanding negation and a generic reinforcer.  We'll be using the reinforcer to target pronouns throughout the book.  (The pictures a really cute!)

If you can believe it, this product includes 152 pages (76 in the color version and 76 in the black and white version)!!!!!  I would highly, highly recommend that you check out this product HERE!  It's only $6.50, which is a great value.  I've literally been using this product with almost my entire elementary caseload and will continue to use it this week.  It's extremely versatile in the language targets and the color vs. black and white options are awesome as well!
